ABOUT

A contemporary dance and visual arts project exploring permaculture & sustainability
Sewn Seeds invites us to observe our relationship to the environment, and inspire interaction and collaboration towards a sustainable future

Drawing on previous research from Can You Hear the Sound of the Flowers?, this work investigates approaches from permaculture through a collaboration between visual arts and movement practice.

​

For the sharing in November 2017 at hARTslane (New Cross, London), 

we had a weekend of free children's art recycling workshop, a permaculture workshop with Social Landscapes, exhibition and performances, plus free resources about sustainable living accessible to the visitors.

​

AIMS
Through art, this project aims to engage the local community and beyond, in an inspiring, motivating and inclusive way, and to provide ideas of how we can work together as a community to bring about positive benefits both for us and the planet.


SEWN SEEDS wants to explore formats of how to present art in a sustainable and community engaging way. The company wants to continue developing workshops, performances and talks, to be presented in and outside the theatre space and enable outreach to a wider audience outside of the arts. Their aim is to be able to tour the project across the U.K. and Norway, and engage communities in sustainable living through creativity and permaculture.

children's art recycling workshop

As part of Sewn Seeds, we hosted a free arts recycling workshop for children age 5 to 9.

We had 13 children and their adults making wings out of recycled, found or unwanted materials. The workshop was led by our artists Devora O'Neill and Iva Decheva.

To make the wings, they used old clothes hangers, plastic bags and cuttings of fabric and old clothes. 

After finishing, the children had the opportunity to exhibit their wings as part of the Sewn Seeds exhibition

Exhibition & Permaculture Workshop

During the exhibition, we had a wonderful workshop in permaculture run by Tish Vail from Social Landscapes. The workshop started with a sensory exploration, followed by an introduction to the history and principles of permaculture. In the end there was a design challenge where the participants had to design their own permaculture space, lots of interesting ideas came up.
