ABOUT BETWEENROOM / MELLOMROM

"It is like a handclasp between two living hands... It is this speech between the hand and the clay that makes me think of dialogue. And it is a language far more interesting than the spoken vocabulary which tries to describe it. For it is spoken not by the tongue and lips but by the whole body, by the whole person, speaking and listening."

- Richards, 1964

A DOCUMENTED AND LIVE EXPLORATION OF RESPONSES AND MEETINGS BETWEEN MOVEMENT AND CLAY, DANCE ARTIST AND CERAMICIST, MOTHER AND DAUGHTER

BACKGROUND
Betweenroom/Mellomrom is a collaborative investigation between movement and ceramics, with my mother and ceramicist Linda Jansson Lothe. It started summer 2014, and has had various outcomes as a durational performance installation, installation of film and object, solo performance and ceramic works. The non-verbal dialogue, expressing ourselves through the medium of movement and clay, has been important. I am interested in the materials of clay and how this malleable and strong but yet fragile texture can inform the moving body.
Documentation and how to share process and investigation with the viewer, rather than focusing on an outcome or a product is something we have found interesting.

NOW
I am now developing a solo performance, based on our previous research as well as bringing in ideas about sustainability and eco-systems as compositional structures. I am questioning societys relationship with nature today, and how we in the future can build a way to engage with our surroundings that are in pact with the earth.

The work in progress, will be shown at Attenborough Art Centre, Leicester 1st of May from 7PM. "Us & Them" is hosted by Tetrad Collective
